Polylang alternative for Breakdance: Spark Multilingual
Looking for a Polylang alternative and building with Breakdance? Spark Multilingual translates at field level inside your existing Breakdance pages, so you do not maintain a separate page per language, and you translate with your own DeepL or Claude key. We state the downside up front: Spark Multilingual only works with Breakdance. If you build with another theme or builder, or you want one domain per language, Polylang is the better choice. This page compares features and approach, not speed or translation quality, as of October 2026.
In short
- Breakdance only, that is the trade-off
- One source page, translation at field level
- Polylang offers one domain or subdomain per language
- Polylang works more broadly, but does not mention Breakdance
What Spark Multilingual does
Spark Multilingual reads the existing Breakdance tree and translates per field. The source page stays the only version you maintain; each language is a layer on top that stays linked when you change the source. You click a text block in a live preview and translate it directly. An overview shows per page and per language what is complete, outdated or still empty. Unfinished translations get noindex, and hreflang and sitemaps per language are generated automatically.
How Polylang works
Polylang is a translation plugin for WordPress. Its product page says you can translate posts, pages, media, categories, tags, custom post types, widgets, menus and products, manually or with machine translation, and that the plugin uses no extra tables. You can translate URL slugs and choose one directory, subdomain or domain per language. DeepL is available with your own API key. For web shops there is a separate add-on, Polylang for WooCommerce, which also syncs stock and prices across translations. Whether Polylang creates a separate page per language is not stated on the product page.
Features side by side
The table shows what both products state on their own public pages, as of October 2026. Where something is not stated, we say so.

Where Polylang is stronger
Polylang is not tied to one builder. If you use another theme, you cannot use Spark Multilingual. Polylang also lets you choose a domain or subdomain per language and has a separate WooCommerce add-on that syncs stock and prices across translations. Spark Multilingual does not offer its own domain per language; you choose a language prefix or translated slugs. If you do not use Breakdance, or you need a domain per language, Polylang is the logical choice.
When Spark Multilingual fits
Spark Multilingual fits when your site is already built in Breakdance and you do not want to maintain separate pages per language. You pay the translation service directly through your own DeepL or Claude key, with no markup from our side. If you disable the plugin, the site keeps running in the source language. For our price, see the pricing page; as of October 2026 Polylang charges from €99 per year for Pro, excl. VAT. There is no built-in workflow for a team of translators; you work in the Studio or through CSV import.
How we compared
We read the Spark Multilingual product page and the public Polylang pages (polylang.pro and its pricing page), as of October 2026. We compare features and approach, not speed or translation quality. If you see something that is not right, tell us and we will correct the page.
With Polylang, first check that your page builder and plugins are supported. With Spark Multilingual, test with one language and one page.
