Weglot alternative for Breakdance: Spark Multilingual

Looking for a Weglot alternative and building with Breakdance? Weglot is a subscription service with a word limit and a fixed fee per month or year. Spark Multilingual works differently: the translations live in your own WordPress and you pay the translation service directly with your own DeepL or Claude key. We state the downside up front: Spark Multilingual only works with Breakdance, while Weglot runs on dozens of platforms. If you do not use Breakdance, Weglot is the more logical choice. This page compares features and pricing model, not translation quality, as of October 2026.
In short
  • Breakdance only, that is the trade-off
  • No word limit in the plugin
  • Weglot: word limit and language limit per plan
  • Weglot runs on 70+ platforms and offers translators

What Spark Multilingual does

Spark Multilingual reads the existing Breakdance tree and translates per field. The source page stays the only version; each language is a layer on top that stays linked when you change the source. You translate in a live preview and approve translations in the Studio before they go live. There is no word limit in the plugin: costs follow your usage at DeepL or Claude, with no markup from our side. If you disable the plugin, the site keeps running in the source language.

How Weglot works

Weglot is a translation service with subscriptions. According to its pricing page (October 2026, excl. VAT) there is a free plan with 2,000 words and 1 language, and paid plans starting at Starter with 10,000 words for €15 per month or €150 per year. Business (€29 per month) has 50,000 words and 3 languages, Pro (€79 per month) 200,000 words and 5 languages, Advanced (€299 per month) 1,000,000 words and 10 languages, and Extended (€699 per month) 5,000,000 words and 20 languages. Enterprise is on request. The page also lists a glossary, media translation, access to professional translators and export and import in the higher plans.

Features side by side

The table shows what both products state themselves, as of October 2026. Where something is not stated, we say so. For example, Weglot does not state on its pricing page where translations are stored.

Where Weglot is stronger

Weglot is not tied to Breakdance and, according to its own site, connects with 70+ platforms. You get access to professional translators from the Business plan, a free plan to try, a glossary and team members per plan. Spark Multilingual has no workflow for human translators and only works on WordPress with Breakdance. If you use another platform or want to outsource translations, Weglot fits better.

When Spark Multilingual fits

Spark Multilingual fits when your site is built in Breakdance and you want no word limit or language limit per plan. The costs are those of your own DeepL or Claude account, plus the licence for the plugin; see the pricing page. For a large site with many languages, a fixed subscription with limits can come out more or less expensive than paying per use; work that out for your own site. Using your own API key also means you keep an eye on your own AI spending.

How we compared

We read the Spark Multilingual product page and the public Weglot pages (pricing and home page), as of October 2026. Weglot calls its dollar prices an estimate and charges in euros; we quote the euro prices. What Weglot does not state, we do not state. We do not compare translation quality or speed.
Count your words and languages first. If your site fits within one Weglot plan, compare the monthly cost honestly against your own AI usage.

Frequently asked questions

Not in the plugin. Costs follow your usage at your own DeepL or Claude account. Weglot uses a word limit per plan.

No. It only works on WordPress sites built with Breakdance (WordPress 6.0 or higher, PHP 8.1 or higher). Weglot mentions 70+ platforms on its pages.

Yes. Without a key you fill in translations manually in the Studio or through CSV import. A DeepL or Claude key enables automatic translation.
