WP Rocket too expensive? Alternatives compared
Are you looking for a WP Rocket alternative because the yearly licence adds up, or because you want more control? An honest starting point: WP Rocket is not a bad plugin and in our own test it was even slightly faster than Spark Speed. What you can change is how you pay and how much you have to set up yourself. Here are five options side by side, with prices from the official sites as of October 2026. If you have LiteSpeed hosting, the free LiteSpeed Cache is probably the best alternative. If you want a speed duel, that is on the separate page Spark Speed versus WP Rocket; this page is about money and approach.
In short
- WP Rocket costs €49.95 per year for one site and renews automatically by default
- With LiteSpeed hosting, the free LiteSpeed Cache is often the best choice
- In our test WP Rocket was slightly faster on LCP, at almost the same score
- Spark Speed does not win on speed, but on approach: a canary per site and an import button
What WP Rocket costs, and what happens after the first year
As of October 2026, wp-rocket.me lists three plans: Single for one site at €49.95 per year, Plus for three sites at €99.95 and Multi at €249.95. The site limit of Multi is not clear on the pricing page; the feature list names 50, 100 and 500 sites. The FAQ says automatic renewal is on by default and can be switched off in the account overview. The renewal price is not stated separately; the site only speaks of 'a lower rate' for renewing. What happens to updates and support afterwards is not explicit; the site says the latest released version keeps working and that renewing keeps updates and support. There is a 14-day trial with a full refund.
Five options side by side
The table below uses only what the vendors themselves publish. 'Not stated' means we did not find it on their pages. Spark Speed prices come straight from our store.

The alternatives, briefly
Each alternative solves a different problem. Look first at your hosting and your tolerance for setting things up yourself.
- LiteSpeed Cache: free and open source. The cache features need a LiteSpeed server (OpenLiteSpeed, commercial LiteSpeed or LiteSpeed hosting) or QUIC.cloud as an intermediate layer. Without that, according to the plugin page, things like minify, lazy loading, object cache and database clean-up still work. If you have LiteSpeed hosting, this is often the first plugin to try.
- W3 Total Cache: a free version with page, database and object cache and minify. According to the page, delaying scripts and removing unused CSS and JS are Pro only. It is a plugin with many settings, so expect more figuring out.
- FlyingPress: a paid plugin with a simple interface and, according to its own site, more than 30 optimisations. We compare it on approach and price, not on speed.
- WP Rocket: paid, with automatic yearly renewal as the default. Known for few settings that work right away.
What Spark Speed does differently
Spark Speed is a plugin with its own page cache. It does not aim to be the cheapest or the fastest, but the plugin that makes you guess less. What the code and the product page show:
- Its own page cache with a drop-in that serves cached pages before WordPress boots, plus optimisations such as delay JavaScript, used CSS and lazy loading.
- One button, 'Optimize my site', where a canary tests per site whether risky switches (delay, used CSS) are safe before they stay on.
- Import button from WP Rocket and FlyingPress for exclusions and cache rules. How that works is in the guide on switching from WP Rocket.
- Works next to a server cache: Spark recognises a LiteSpeed server cache and leaves page caching to it, while delivering the optimisations itself.
- Health checks for the drop-in and the conflict with another cache plugin.
Speed: WP Rocket was slightly faster
In our lab (October 2026, five pages, Lighthouse mobile, median of five runs) a fully configured WP Rocket averaged an LCP of 1.27 s at a score of 100. Spark Speed 0.72.0 reached 1.54 s at 99.8. So the score is practically equal and WP Rocket was slightly faster on LCP. We did not measure LiteSpeed Cache and W3 Total Cache, so we name no figures for them, and we compare FlyingPress on features and approach only. The full comparison with WP Rocket is on the separate page.
Which one fits whom
If you have LiteSpeed hosting and want to pay nothing: LiteSpeed Cache. If you want a free start and have patience for settings: W3 Total Cache, with Pro if you want delay or unused CSS. If you want a paid plugin with few buttons: WP Rocket or FlyingPress. If you want a plugin to test risky switches per site, and you come from WP Rocket: Spark Speed. If you already use a server cache or another cache plugin, read how Spark works alongside it. Note: never run two page cache plugins at the same time.
First establish whether your host already has a server cache. If so, the choice is often already made and you do not need to pay for a second page cache.
Coming from WP Rocket? Spark Speed imports your exclusions and cache rules, as a preview first. 1 site €49.99 per year, 5 sites €99.00, unlimited €199.00. Monthly from €4.99. 14-day money-back guarantee.
Frequently asked questions
That depends on your hosting. On a LiteSpeed server, LiteSpeed Cache is free and open source. On other servers W3 Total Cache has a free version, but according to the page, delay scripts and removing unused CSS and JS are Pro only.
Not automatically. In our test a fully configured WP Rocket was on average slightly faster on LCP than Spark Speed (1.27 s against 1.54 s), at practically the same score. Speed also depends on your site, hosting and settings.
Partly. Spark Speed imports exclusion lists, cache rules and CSS combining from WP Rocket, but does not switch on delay JavaScript and used CSS automatically. The guide Switching from WP Rocket describes the steps.
